Protect Your Investment

Sacrificial anodes are essential for protecting carbon steel tanks from rusting, particularly in Glass Lined Hot Water Tanks. Glass lining is never 100% perfect and may have microscopic "holidays" (unprotected areas). Magnesium anodes are electro-chemically more reactive than steel, so they corrode ("sacrifice" themselves) instead of the tank wall.

Important: Anodes are mandatory for Glass Lined tanks, optional for Cement Lined tanks, but MUST NOT be used with Epoxy Lined tanks as they can cause blistering of the lining.

Types of Anodes

1. Rigid Anodes

Rigid anodes are solid rods typically installed in a horizontal position on the side of the tank. While effective, replacing them often requires draining the tank below the anode connection level, which can be time-consuming and costly.

2. Flexible (Flex) Anodes

Flexible anodes are linked segments installed in a vertical position, hanging from the top head of the tank. They are highly recommended for maintenance efficiency.

  • Easy Replacement: No need to drain the tank. Simply depressurize, pull out the old anode, and insert the new one.
  • Low Clearance: Requires only about 12" of overhead clearance for installation.
  • Cost Effective: Drastically reduces annual maintenance time and labor.
